Thank You
WOW, 2010 was a good year at Talladega! The weather was great, the track was fast, the food was excellent, and the people were wonderful.
We are so grateful for the volunteers who gave up their holiday weekend to serve. Most of the volunteers were people who are members of Alabama Gold Star Families. These people have given the ultimate
sacrifice a civilian could give for their country and their military. I hope you all had a chance to talk with them and give them your thanks for making that sacrifice.
We also want to thank Patrick and the whole Talladega track crew. They worked hard all day and kept the cars flowing on and off the track without a hitch.
Most everyone had a good time, myself included. How could we not? We got to spend a beautiful day in Alabama at the worlds fastest Superspeedway, in our beautiful cars, with a bunch of people who share the same passions as we do.
There were a few mechanical issues with some of the cars that kept them off the track, but I believe the drivers of those cars did get to at least ride with someone else on the track.
All in all, the on-track sessions went well. A driver's meeting at 8:45 AM where on-track rules were covered. The track crew do this type of event every weekend and have seen people like us try it all. They know when we are trying to pull a fast one, and they know what to do to get us back in line. We had one group stop on the track and had to pull them in to give them their own personal driver's meeting before sending them back out again. One gentleman was booted off the track for being unsafe and causing the near-wreck on the back stretch. A noon driver's meeting to discuss what had happened, to re-iterate that safety is the first priority of the track officials, and to go over the rules a second time. The afternoon sessions went flawlessly. We ended the day a full hour and a half early. Everything was packed up and we had all left the track at 3:45 PM.
I may have been the guy sending all the emails and creating all the spread sheets, but if it weren't for the volunteers, this event would not have been what it was. There are a lot of notes of appreciation below and they are all to me, but I know that my part was no more important than the guy cooking the hamburgers, or the guy directing people which garage to be in, or the people taking up money for lunch, or handing out tee shirts. EVERY person who volunteered was just as important as the next. I want to share these comments with all of you.
